What Oil Should I use
Ok yes I could have used the search but it's been so long since I have been on I just wanted to say Hi to everybody.
I just got the Hot Rod running again, (After 3 years) I was wondering what oil I should use. I for the life of me can't remember. And can you use Synthetic? Anyway it was sure nice driving the old bucket again. May take it to a show Saturday just for kicks.

Re: What Oil Should I use
20w50 is what I always used back when I had a daily-driver VW (for 10 years straight). I liked Castrol but I have a friend that daily drives his bus with whatever generic oil is on sale with no issues. Proper maintenance is more important than brand, I think.

I think oil brand is way over emphasized. Most miles I ever put on anything was a GMC Envoy. I think I changed the oil twice during the 80+k I drove it. Never had any issues with it

Re: What Oil Should I use
Yeah I was thinking more weight than brand. In the good old days we ran straight 50. I have read different views on Synthetic. I have decided that it's not worth the cost. As with most public forums there was a discussion on here the last time I was on about needing to use an oil additive (which I use anyway) to the new oil. But can't remember the exact details.

Yup, that's it. I read an article where Comp Cams built an engine and the cam failed very quickly. Looking into it, they found the problem to be the missing zinc.
That's why a lot of old school hot rodders use Rotella
