Spoofin my email
Last night, I had over 1700 "undeliverable" notices in my email; this morning, there were over 1600 more.
They showed the sender of the bounced messages was dadgaeeabga@carcentric.com - but I have NEVER sent ANY messages from carcentric.com (my website), so someone else is spoofing my address to send out their junk mail.
Aside from deleting the messages, is there anything else I should do? My ISP says the mail isn't going through their servers, so there's nothing they can do about it.

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
just do a virus search, that's about as much sa you can do really. They should eventually stop, I used to get return emails (not send by me) once in awhile, but not that many. Unless there's a virus on your PC sending out the emails (hence the virus search).

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
Somehow,I managed to move the toolbar,
that's usually across the bottom with the start button and small icons.
Now it's vertical on the right hand side of the screen. WTF ?
No idea what I did.
How can I get it back where it belongs ?
Thanks.

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
Just click somewhere on a blank area of the toolbar and drag it wherever you want it.
I prefer mine at the top.

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
Hey Carcentric, if your using microsoft outlook or outlook Express. check your email accounts to see if a hacker has created some additional email accounts in there. I've had that happen twice. I deleted them and then scaned my system.

I use mail.yahoo.com to retrieve mail sent to my site (carcentric.com), and I use Outlook Express for the address my cable company (Comcast) provided me - that's the only account that shows up on Outlook Express.
I just ran a TrendMicro PC-cillin scan and found no viruses, just 44 cookies (I deleted all but the one I recognized).
So it's just wait for the outbreak to stop now . . . . ?

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
Do you have the e-mail sent to your web site routed to you personal account? If you do, it sounds like someone has hijacked your web site account; that would not show up on your PC unless you are hosting you own site. If so you need to contact your wed hosting company to get that straightened out.

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
Spam sucks. I am the IT Manager of a lawfirm. After speaking with the server guy I was told that we blocked, BLOCKED by our Watchguard Firewall, 3million emails in 33 days. We let in almost 30 emails a minute, of those (filtered by CA's SCM and GFI) about 2-3 a minute go in the inbox of a user. We are going to buy a highend workstation just to handel Spam filtering. At any givine minute we have over 200 servers sending Spam to us. Unreal.

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
There really isn't nothing you can do to stop people form using your email address for spam besides making sure it's not a virus on your PC. Nobody has to hack into your account or have access to your email info to do this.
1)There are some virus that attaches to your email client then send email using the email address people in your address book. Meaning one of your friends can be infected, and their virus is using your email address (if they have you in their contacts/address book)
2)It's very easy to send email using a different return email address. It's an option in most email client software. IE: I can send any email using another email address as the return address, so if they reply (or bounces back), it would go to the other address instead of mine. It's meant for personal vs. business emailing. There are smapper programs that is more sophisticated that bascially does the same thing. It is very common to get spam to you from you. It is even more common that smappers use fake email address or use someone else's.

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
need some html help.
I've been playing in a blog, to display my airbrushing. I've changed colors and letters. Teen told me theres a way to put an image, say the nose art of my car, in the back ground and it will stay still while everything else scrolls.
I have the blog codes saved in my file, been playing there before I make changes on line.... What I wanna know is, how do I do this? Does the image need to be online, like in my photobucket or can it come from my computer?
the codes my teen gave me are just for building,,,, kids....
thanks~

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
carlene: first it needs to be an online image, i.e. photobucket. Then use this code:
body
{
background-image: url(COMPLETE URL FROM PHOTOBUCKET);
background-attachment: fixed}
include all parenthasees and stuff

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
This is the HTML code I use (a little different than above):
<body bgcolor="white" bgproperties="fixed" background="carcentricbkgrd.gif" text="#CC0000" link="#CC0000" vlink="purple" alink="red">
If you get a background, but it won't stay put, it could be a difference between browsers.
Pages I have a fixed background for work that way when viewed with Internet Explorer, but the background is locked/moves with the content/body when viewed with Firefox.

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
I am not gonna read all the pages so this might be a repost. This is for Hal or whoever uses that fucked up Smiley Central shit. It is spyware/adware, no if ands or buts about it. Its bad stuff. I have fought that shit for years for home uses and major coporations. Its cute, its fun but so are 18 y/o chicks but like Smiley Central they are dangerous.
Get that shit off your PC.

The only thing about an cute 18 y/o that is dangerous in Texas is that I would die of heat failure if one was interested in my old ass or My wife would kill me.
Now a 16 will get you 20 here
You are right about the smilies though
But seeing as removing spy-ware is 95% of my income. You shouldn't be telling everybody I have kids to put through collage.
But seeing as Hal isn't a customer and is an OK guy. I guess it's alright

Just a tip for anybody that's interested ....
If animated avatars irritate you, just hit the Esc key to make it stop.

Re: O/T computer help desk thread
i did filed work on PC's and servers, spyware was my main source of billable hours but people would get reinfected after a complete rebuild. THEN go buy a new PC. b/c a new PC will not have the same problems
spyware sucks. gotta love those 'free' screen savers
here is a tip guys, 90% of 'free' software on the WWW is not free, you get a slower PC in echange for the 'free' stuff due to all the processes running in the background. THEN the fucking thing gets all the address from your Outlook. THEN all your friends get junk emails from the parent company, b/c you GAVE away their email address. - thanks guys
i'll take a virus any day over spyware, well almost.
off the soap box
