Are you running file compression?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307987
If so it compresses files you don't access thus creating more space, but when you made a bunch of changes it may have 'expanded' those files and that's where your 6% went. Check out the steps in the link to see if you have compression on.
If you don't it may be your 'page file' getting bigger or smaller - this is basically virtual ram - when you run something it will put parts of it in your active ram (the hardware) and in a pagefile so it can launch quicker next time and allow the OS to run faster.

Who is your email account with ?

In Yahoo email, you can turn their Spam filter on or off.
Same deal in Lycos, and you can also add your own filters.

Anyone need a GMAIL e-mail account. I think they're up to like 2.5gig of free space.

I got like 100 invites still.

If you just want to do one song at a time, Audacity will do it with the LAME (that's the name, not that it is lame) MP3 conversion:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
For others you might want to search http://www.versiontracker.com and do an advanced search for 'wav to mp3', looks like most are shareware but there are a few freeware converters listed

Ok here comes one from the dumbest guy on the net...

I got my 'puter running again, and was able to remove all the "critters". But now I have something like a gazillion "system 32 error/faults". How in the FUCK do I take care of these? My "system repair" software can't touch it.

Oh yeah. Almost forgot... Just recently discovered that this PC was built using a bootleg version of Xp Pro. Taking take of that soon.

I am sorry but I am only able to help if you are getting a "bazillion". error.

Are these coming after you are seeing the desktop but before you are able to do anything?

No they are infected with "critters" and only show up when I do a scan. The system is working fine (so to say), but I want to find out how to fix these problems.

use ad-aware from lavasoft and spybot. there are several fake spybots out ther so be sure to get the "spybot search and destroy"

What scan are you running now ?

I'm running Spybot and Spython. They detect the problems just fine, but are unable to delete, repair, or even quarenteen the problem. When I try to "fix" the problems, it reboots my system instantly and the problems are still there.

You can't get rid of anything that is currently running.,
Use Spybot and Ad-Aware in Safe Mode,to get around this.

I find Ad-Aware to be more usefull than Spybot,
but use both as cheap insurance;never heard of Spython.

I had a virus problem once,AVG identified it,but couldn't
do anything with it in regular mode.Restarted in Safe Mode,
was able to Quaranteen the virus no problem, then delete it.

Yeah see... I have tried this in safe mode also. Everything I try will detect the problems, but they will not "fix" anything. A few of the items say that I do not have "authorization". WTF? Anyway... I may end up just going out and getting a new opp. system (new) and reloading everything.

You don't have "authorization" most likely due to the fact the files that are trying to be deleted are in use.. or they're written to not be deleted.. which sucks.. when you get as infected as it sounds like you are.. it's much easier to just re-image i.e. wipe the OS and start anew.. that's what I usually do with my employees that get their systems buried in spyware and such. I used to use Spybot, but it stopped working and started throwing errors.. I use Yahoo toolbar which has a Symantec spyware software, which is free.. (I'm cheap) and Windows Defender as well. Which is also free... http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx

since you have a hacked version of XP, you won't be able to use that cause it does verify the OS Authenticity (Damn them...) but like I say, if you have as many critters as you say you do, and you're planning on getting a new OS anyway, that would be your best bet.. cause that takes care of ALL the critters hehe. hope this helps!

p.s.

might be able to help ya with the OS situation as well..

That's what I figured.

It's not quite a gazillion, but close. More like 42. I figure that they are "non-deletable" as nothing is running when I csan it. And it is only 1 that causes the shut down. If I just "skip" the cleaning of that one, it works fine.

Oh well. See what $45.00 gets ya? But I did get an 80G HD and 512 memory, and DVD writer/burner out of the deal, so I guess it's not all bad.

Was using AVG, but it is being discontinued on the 18th of next month. So I went out and "bought" a system CD set that includes fire wall, anti-virus, spyware removal/detection, and a shit pot load of other stuff.

Yep! Just $45.00. The guy rebuilds puters at his house. This one was "given" to us, but was running a REALLY fucked up (buggered) version of ME. So he wiped it, but wouldn't load the Xp, so he installed the 80G HD and bumped the 128 mem. up to the 512. I would like it even faster, but even a Lamborghini would get bogged down if it was running on the "dial-up Hwy".

Yeah, a 286 could run just as good on dial up as a new one.

Except for the graphics part, it's all modem.

Get an XP upgrade for $99.00 at Wal Mart and start from scratch.
