Re: What did you do yesterday...
OTTO LIVES!!!!!
Put a new battery in and he fired right up! Time to get a new fuel filter in and check everything out! I did notice that a second before the engine dies, the tach flatlines. Anyone got a thought on this?

Re: What did you do yesterday...
The tach might have a short. I had a boat that the tach shorted out in and it took me for ever to trace it back to the tach. un hook it and see what happens.

Re: What did you do yesterday...
Thanks D, I'll see what happens. I have an extra tach or two in the shop. I'll compare and contrast.
Jeff
P.S. That pickup in your photo album is bad ass!!!! I love old trucks. You could beat on em, mod them, fix em with bailing wire and duct tape, tinker til next week and never have the same truck as anyone else!

Thanks Jeff!
I trade that '63 for the yellow manx with a 2240 in it! That little sucker was a wild ride!!
Good luck finding your electrical gremlin.

Re: What did you do yesterday...
I hate electric gremlins!
Now, what did I do today? Heh heh heh! Everyone, I got sidetracked again (shiny bumpers, squirrels, oval windows do it to me)......So...
I came across a really good deal on a car that I have wanted for many years, and I ended up buying it today.
I still have to finish some other projects to make room for it, but I am pretty excited about it!

Re: What did you do yesterday...
hey holy shit! look at this! I'm actually posting in here for once baout what I did YESTERDAY! not last week, not over the last few days, but yesterday! that's amazing! :P
anywho.. only slept about 4 hours tuesday night, so had planned all day on going home and passing out.. got home, decided, "screw it, it should only take maybe 20 minutes to put my driver's side card back together.. i'm gonna go do that, then i'll sleep.."
well, got the carb back together and onto the engine, noticed I had a package from Sheridan full of AN fittings/hose that I bought from him last week, and somehow I got the bug up my ass to start working on the front end..
When I started yeseterday, gas tank was out, front fiberglass piece was off, and that was about it..
Here is about half of what i did..
yeah, in hindsight, pulling the beam off, wheel to wheel, probably isn't a one person job..
but I got the beam off, got my extender off, started rattle canning the extender red to match my framehead brace.. tried test fitting the brace, decided I'm gonna have to spend some time cleaning all the road grime and grease and shit on the frame head/firewall/that whole area..
next steps are finish painting extender, clean all that shit up, reinstall extender with brace, re install beam, buy electric fuel pump, regulator and filter, install AN lines for fuel, hook everything up, find out if I rebuilt the engine right :D I'm getting close.. just need about $200 in parts and I should be ready to go..

Yanked the tach and it fired right up! Won't idle after driving it around the block but I think I need to REALLY drive it for a bit and clean it out.
I finished the steering column, adjusted the clutch, fired it up and lapped the subdivision a few times! It's been 2 years and it felt good! Forgot how quirky buggies handle! I need to design a clutch mechanism that doesn't have the huge throw but not so grabby. Got an idea....

Re: What did you do yesterday...
Going to give it a nice freshening up, adjust the valves, change the oil, set the plug gap etc... I need to mount the hood, tuck up the wiring and adjust the headlights then get new plates for it. I should be cruising for ice cream in the next few weeks!

Re: What did you do yesterday...
Think this was yesterday.. may have been saturday.. my memory sucks..
JJ came over to help me out since my dumb ass dropped a chain into the filler hole of my gas tank instead of the sending unit hole in order to clean it out.. Turns out the chain wrapped itself around the vent tube, I screwed with it for a while then sent out a mass texts to all my VW buddies asking for advice, JJ stopped by and spent about 20 minutes with a coat hanger and got it out..
While I had him there, I got him to hold some bolt heads in place while I tightened the nuts on the other side of the firewall, and we got my extender and front beam back on the car :D

next up, buy an electric fuel pump, regulator, and fuel filter, cut and build my AN lines, plumb the car, put the engine back in, fire it up and see if I screwed anything up! :P

Thanks, I was telling JJ, everytime I tell someone I've got a beam extension, they give me that, "what are you talking about?" look, and I try and point past my front tire at it, but when it was black, they still had no idea.. now I can just say "the red thing."
and the brace is Doug's, great work on it! but the extension is one of Tinbeater's last 10" ones. love everything about it except for how big of a pain in the ass it is to get a wrench/ratchet in at the bolts.. but I imagine they are all like that in the interest of structural strength..
I wound up just putting an extension and swivel with a socket on my impact and silently praying nothing exploded.. :P

Re: What did you do yesterday...
I had one of the best Volksrod days yesterday. I met Rob (hotrodheb) and his family. For those of you that have never met him, he is very normal for a volksrodder!
I needed to store a project vehicle for 10 days, and having never met me, he offered his place up, no reservations. Totally awesome and greatly appreciated. My rather large family showed up and we stood around talking VWs for a couple of hours, finally letting him get back to his family and their plans for the evening and heading north to visit with my Dad.
I had two additional bonuses yesterday. Bulldog's choptop is a beautiful car in progress, and I got to see it in person. Just an amazing car, with excellent craftsmanship throughout. The other bonus is some reading material that I plan on enjoying the rest of my trip, full of some volksrod history and really cool pics and stories.
So, even though I am quite a long way from my garage and projects right now and didn't do any work on them, I had a great VR day.

Re: What did you do yesterday...
Me and Mindy (Janis1964) had a 5 anniversary/vow renewal since we eloped. It was at our house and we dressed in a pinup/rock-a-billy style. Had a few volksrodders there also,Carlbugs (Carl and family), PureC4 (Greg and his awesome wife and cool ass son Ian-Fullmetaljackalope. We had pictures done with my VWs, my dads 35 Fort truck and a friends chopped 49 Ford coupe. Great day with great friends/family. I will post some pics later.

Watched a 200K motorhome modify his awning with a small pine tree. Wasn't pretty to watch but I helped him patch it enough to get him down the road to a bigger campground. Pour old man was from FL.
